This antique chest from Gujarat, India is adorned with remnants of a light blue paint finish that has faded over time. The beautiful blend of old paint and wood creates a stunning patina on this piece, which dates back to the late 19th century, circa 1900.

Its shabby chic appearance makes it an ideal coffee table choice. Crafted from high-quality teak wood, these chests were custom made by the head of the family and used to store valuable items such as textiles, jewelry, dowry, and cash. It has a particularly beautiful original iron hasp.

To ensure maximum security, these chests were equipped with strong padlocks. The vast array of styles seen in Indian chests and boxes reflect the many cultural influences that have shaped the country.
