This antique limber chest would have been used by the British Army in India in the late 19th century. These robust chests were made to store ammunition and are heavily bound in iron to endure the rigours of campaign life. Constructed from dense, seasoned teak, each chest was designed to bear immense weight — sometimes over three times its own — ensuring its reliability on the battlefield.

Today, this once highly functional military piece has found new life as a striking decorative antique. Its aged green-painted surface and rich patina tell the story of years of service and survival. The chest’s strong form and subtle colour variation make it a versatile piece that would sit beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors — ideal for use as a low side table or storage chest.
