Antique Indian Coffee Tables

Filter

An exceptional collection of Indian coffee tables crafted from reclaimed teak, roheda and antique architectural elements. These tables reflect India’s deep tradition of craftsmanship — where practical furniture forms evolve into sculptural, storied centrepieces for the modern home.

    Takhat Tables & Regional Styles

The Takhat — a low daybed once used across Rajasthan, Shekhawati, Hyderabad and Gujarat — remains the foundation of many Indian coffee tables. Constructed from roheda (Tecomella undulata) or teak, these sturdy platforms served as seating, sleeping, or dining surfaces within homes and havelis.

Regional variations give each Takhat its own character. Shekhawati takhats tend to feature more organic, irregular plank tops that follow the natural shape of the tree, with heavy iron strapping, lacquer-beaded edges and deeply carved details. Gujarati takhats are often more ornate, with lacquered legs, decorative carving and occasional painted highlights. By contrast, Hyderabad takhats are plainer and more rectilinear, favouring straight plank tops and understated joinery.

    Chakki Grinder Tables

Chakki tables originated as traditional grain mills, typically found in the Jaisalmer region of Rajasthan. Each contained two circular grinding stones that were turned by hand to mill rice or wheat, with a small side door through which the ground flour was collected. The carved wooden base supported and encased the stones, often decorated with low-relief geometric or floral motifs.

Today, these bases are refinished in our workshops and fitted with toughened glass tops, transforming them into tactile, functional tables ideal for modern interiors. Their open interiors can be used to store books or small objects, combining sculptural presence with practicality.

    Chests as Coffee Tables

Why not consider one of our antique Indian chest coffee tables — either brass-bound military trunks or dowry and storage chests from Gujarat, Rajasthan and northern India. These solid teak pieces, once used for textiles, valuables or travel, have been sympathetically restored for use as coffee tables. Their brass bindings, iron hinges and time-worn surfaces carry the patina of generations of use.

    Restoration & Character

Every table in this collection is individually restored by hand, preserving original joinery, carvings and paint layers wherever possible. Minor wear, tool marks and variations in tone are celebrated — hallmarks of the wabi-sabi philosophy that values authenticity over uniformity. Each piece is a one-off, combining heritage design with the relaxed sensibility of modern rustic living.
