This beautifully patinated iron-bound chest is from Gujarat and dates to the 19th century. It is constructed from teak wood. Most likely it was custom made for a wealthy family to stash away dowry, family treasures, or cash from the prying eyes of extended family members.

The interior contains a candle compartment that has a removable hidden box underneath to store valuables. A sturdy iron chain prevents the lid from falling fully open. It has four wheels for ease of movement. Still a very functional piece, and now a truly unique decorative antique it is the perfect size for storage or use as a side table. The patinated teak and iron would fit into a range of interior styles.
