This antique Indian brass bound chest dates to the 19th century. It would have been used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewelry & cash. There is an interior box for storing candles which would have been valuable, especially in the darker times of the year.

It has two large drawers with a smaller secret central drawer for maps. The wheels are concealed behind wonderfully carved covers and make moving this piece easier even when fully loaded.

A sturdy chain that prevents the lid from falling open and straining the hinges. Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced Indian design.
