This antique Indian brass bound teak chest dates to the 19th century. The style is from Gujarat in Northern India. These chests are often referred to as military chests and would have been used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewelry & cash. Its low height and depth make it perfect for a coffee table or bedding storage. It has its original brass fittings and handles. The top is made from two solid planks of teak wood.

A sturdy chain has been added to prevent the lid falling open and straining the hinges. Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced Indian design.
