This antique brass-bound Anglo-Indian military chest dates to the 19th century and is constructed from richly patinated teak. Retaining its original brass, along with side carrying handles, it embodies the rugged yet elegant design of campaign furniture. Its scale makes it particularly well-suited for use as a distinctive coffee table today.

The interior reveals a spacious single compartment with a fitted candle box and a sturdy chain that prevents the lid from falling back, protecting the original hinges. Military chests such as this were used by officers of the British Indian Army to carry their kit and personal possessions on campaign. Built to order, they were designed to withstand the demands of frequent travel while retaining a sense of refinement. This example is a fine testament to both function and craftsmanship.
