This rosewood chest dates from the middle of the 19th century and is bound with hand forged iron corners and has iron lifting handles. The interior is fitted with a candle box to one side.


Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. They were usually made from teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood.
They were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery and cash.
