This antique Indian brass bound merchant box dates to the 19^th century. Constructed from teak wood this box features its original brass fittings and latch. The lid of the box is adorned with decorative metalwork.

Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. The style is from Gujarat in Northern India and would have been used for storing cash which is why it has a coin slot in the top.
