A practical and charming antique Indian military box dating to the 19th century. It is made from teak wood in the Anglo-Indian style and likely would have belonged to a merchant or East Indiaman. The brass bindings and bun feet are typical of the campaign style introduced by the British East India Company.

The interior has a large interior space complete with a candle box. A sturdy chain prevents the lid from falling open. This chest has been finished in our UK workshops and has a beautiful and rich patina.

Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India.
