This antique brass bound military chest from Kutch, Gujarat, dates to the 19th century and is a fine example of Anglo-Indian craftsmanship. Originally made for officers of the British Indian Army, such chests were commissioned to carry uniforms, equipment, and personal possessions while on tour. Built to endure long journeys and harsh conditions, they were designed with durability and security in mind.

Constructed from richly patinated teak and reinforced with its original brass and iron fittings, this piece reflects both strength and elegance. The chest retains its original handles, a spacious interior with a candle box, and a sturdy chain to prevent the lid from straining the hinges. Evidence of old repairs on the hinges tells the story of its long service life. Today, its size makes it perfectly suited for use as a coffee table, combining practical storage with historic charm.
