These 19th-century Indian dog gates from Gujarat would have been used in front of the main entrance door of Gujarati Havelis to keep animals out. This one is made from rosewood and iron. Rosewood is far less commonly used for dog gates suggesting these came from a wealthy merchant home. 

They make very interesting & decorative garden gates & are suitable for outdoor use as well as unique pieces of wall art. This particular piece has studs as well as a carved top. Over time it has developed a wonderful rich patina.
