This impressive 19th-century carved teak wood archway from Punjab is a magnificent example of Mughal-influenced architectural craftsmanship. Executed as a single, substantial structure, the arch features deeply carved floral scrollwork, geometric lattice panels and a beautifully scalloped inner arch, all reflecting the refined decorative vocabulary associated with North Indian Mughal design. The intricate detailing across the frieze and columns demonstrates the skill of the original artisan, with each motif carefully hand-carved to create rhythm, depth and shadow.

The timber has developed a soft, timeworn patina, enhancing the relief of the carving and highlighting its architectural presence. Of particularly striking note are the pierced lattice panels above the arch and the repeating floral diamond motifs running along the upper frieze. As a complete one-piece structure, this archway makes a dramatic statement feature, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Please note whilst the bottom threshold can be removed or recessed into the floor, the main arch cannot be disassembled, so access to your property should be carefully considered prior to purchase.
