This fabulous carved rosewood door is from Udaipur in Rajasthan. The carving shows a strong Mughal influence and the mihrab is carved in the shape of a resplendent peacock tail. This original door dates from the 18th century. The background still has its original vermillion & cinnabar paint and the panels are inset with mica which would have sparkled in candlelight.
This piece would be stunning hung on a wall or as a freestanding piece of art although it is large enough for a walkthrough doorway and could be built into the fabric of your home for the ultimate incredible doorway.
At the back of the door, 2 hidden panels are visible for receiving of deliveries.
