This green painted stick door dates to ninteenth century India. They were used by the desert-dwelling tribes of Western Rajasthan near the city of Jaisalmer in their buildings which were made of mud and clay. See the final photograph for how these doors were used.
Wood is very scarce in the Thar desert & doors, windows and furniture were made of sticks harvested from the Kair tree (Capparis decidua). The sticks are then riveted together with iron fittings. Hung on a wall they make stunning and unique pieces of wall art.
