This teak chest from Goa would make a great coffee table.
Indian chests were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery, dowry or cash. In the old days it was not common to keep all of you money in the bank so strong boxes were made bespoke, usually commissioned by the head of the family.

    Circa 19th century.

Chests and boxes in India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that conquered and influenced India.
They were usually made from teak, rosewood, or jackfruit wood.
