This Indian iron bound pithara dowry chest would originally have been twice the height but has been cut down to create a dramatic and functional chest that can either be used for storage or as a coffee table. It has ample storage and would be a substantial blanket chest. Impressive carved wrought iron hasps and original metalwork binding give this piece a great deal of character.

Constructed from robust teak wood, sturdy iron handles make it easy to move and two chains are attached to avoid the lid falling fully open.

They were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewelry and cash.
