This practical and sturdy chest has a wonderfully carved locking boss which adds strength to the opening hatch making it more secure. Most likely it was custom made for a wealthy family to stash away dowry, family treasures or cash from the prying eyes of extended family members.

Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India.
They were usually made from Teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood
Our pieces are mostly from the 19th century & occasionally 18th and early 20th century.
