This impressive 19th-century Indian teak pillar has been sensitively converted into a tall floor-standing candlestick. The original architectural element is richly carved with bands of stylised foliage and traditional floral motifs, retaining the irregularities and wear acquired through many years of use.
The teak has developed a beautifully rich, warm patina, with old cracks, losses and areas of wear adding to its character. A simple metal candle dish has been fitted into the top, allowing the pillar to be repurposed while preserving the character of the original carving.
At nearly 1.4 metres high, it makes a particularly striking decorative feature for a large room, entrance hall or alongside a fireplace.
