This magnificent 19th-century teak horse head corbel originates from Gujarat and was originally carved as an architectural element from a grand doorway, where the horse traditionally symbolised strength, prosperity and protection. Boldly sculpted from a single solid block of teak, the form is powerful and expressive, with deeply modelled features, pronounced musculature and confident carving that speaks to the skill of the original craftsman.

Over time, the teak has developed a rich, lustrous patina, with surface wear, age cracks and softened details that reflect its long architectural history. Now mounted on a simple iron stand, the corbel has been transformed into a striking sculptural object, allowing its dramatic presence and material character to be fully appreciated in a contemporary interior setting.
