This impressive 19th-century carved takhat from Gujarat is a superb example of traditional Indian craftsmanship. Originally serving as a daybed for the wealthy merchant classes, the takhat was both a practical furnishing and a mark of status. Crafted from roheda wood €” a prized variety of teak and the national wood of Rajasthan €” it carries a rich history and enduring strength.

The takhat features beautifully turned and lacquered legs that provide both support and character, while the carved apron displays intricate detailing characteristic of Gujarati work. With its deep patina and rustic charm, this piece has now been reimagined as a coffee table, perfect for anchoring a living room, conservatory, or summer house with cultural depth and presence.
