Originally made as a luxurious daybed for the wealthy merchant families of Rajasthan, this impressive 19th century Indian takhat has been beautifully repurposed as a richly characterful coffee table. From the Shekhawati region, it embodies the craftsmanship and decorative detailing for which this area is celebrated—strong, architectural proportions paired with finely worked carving and an inviting, timeworn patina.
Constructed from roheda wood—a prized Rajasthan timber often described as a variety of teak and recognised as the national wood of Rajasthan—the piece has a wonderfully dense, tactile surface, with visible plank construction, studded detailing, and a deep honeyed tone built up through decades of use. A dramatic statement in any interior, it makes a superb rustic centrepiece for a living room, conservatory, or summer house.
