Originally crafted as a luxurious daybed for the wealthy merchant families of Rajasthan, this impressive 19th-century takhat has been thoughtfully repurposed as a substantial and characterful coffee table. Originating from the renowned Shekhawati region, it reflects the area's rich tradition of craftsmanship, combining strong architectural form with understated decorative detailing and a beautifully matured patina developed over generations of use.
Constructed from roheda wood, a prized timber native to Rajasthan and often regarded as a regional equivalent to teak, the table showcases the natural beauty of its timber through broad plank construction and a richly figured grain. Hand-forged iron studding around the perimeter adds both visual interest and structural character, while the low profile retains the proportions of its original function. Equally suited to rustic, contemporary, or eclectic interiors, this remarkable piece makes a striking centrepiece for a living room, garden room, or summer house.
