This fabulous coffee table is an antique Indian daybed known as a takhat. Takhats were originally used as daybeds by the wealthy merchant classes in Rajasthan, particularly in the Shekhawati area. This takhat is from Shekhawati and dates to the 19th century. This piece is made from roheda wood which is a variety of teak and the national wood of Rajasthan. It has developed a wonderful rich patina over the years.

It would make an impressive rustic centerpiece for a living room, conservatory, or summer house.
