This stone guardian lion is likely from a gateway and would originally have been one of a pair standing on either side of an entrance to a home warding off unwanted visitors. It dates from the 19th century and is from Gujarat in Northern India. Originally it would have been painted in vivid colours of which some remnants remain.

This carved characterful stone lion would look great either indoors or in a garden as it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
