This finely carved sandstone jali panel originates from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and dates to the 19th century. Jali (meaning “net” or “lattice” in Hindi) panels were used in the grand havelis of wealthy merchants to filter sunlight and allow air to circulate while maintaining privacy — a hallmark of traditional Rajasthani architecture.
Crafted from the region’s distinctive golden-yellow stone, this piece displays intricate geometric fretwork, a form that reflects both Hindu and Mughal design influences. Mounted on a custom metal stand, it serves as a striking sculptural element for display, celebrating the craftsmanship and artistry of 19th-century Jaisalmer stone carving.
