This fabulous coffee table is a 19th century takhat from the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, India. These were originally used as daybeds by the wealthy merchant classes in Rajasthan - particularly the Shekhawati area. The majority are made from roheda wood which is a variety of Acacia which is the state tree of Rajasthan.

This particular takhat has beautifully turned legs and wonderfully patinaed roheda planks making up the surface. An old name is carved discreetly on one corner. Iron binding and supports give additional support to an already sturdy piece.

It would make an impressive centerpiece for a living room, conservatory or summer house.
