Evocative and finely crafted, this 1940s Bastar toran is a striking example of tribal metalwork from central India, made as both decoration and talisman. Formed as a rhythmic grid of horizontal bands, the hanging is populated with a procession of stylised creatures—deer, birds, and other local wildlife—each rendered in an elegantly minimal silhouette.

Suspended from the lower bars are small pendants that add movement, texture, and a gentle sense of sound when stirred. Traditionally displayed above doorways or across thresholds, toran hangings are protective and auspicious ornaments within the home, and today make a wonderfully sculptural statement on the wall.
