This is a Japanese choba dansu is unusual as it is rare to find red painted Japanese antique furniture. Originally a merchants chest it has multiple compartments, drawers & sliding doors. Light, but well made, this Japanese tansu has its original black painted iron fittings.

Made in traditional style of 2 parts with 7 drawers & sliding doors top & bottom.
3 further drawers behind bottom sliding panels.

Although this could be older, we believe this Japanese tansu to date from the Taishō Period which dates it to early 20th century between 1912 & 1926.
