This exquisite early 19th century painted and carved almirah from Gujarat is a beautifully proportioned cabinet, richly hand carved and retaining its original mirror frontage. The arched door, framed by deeply carved columns and an ornate pediment, gives the piece a striking Gothic character — an unusual and captivating blend of Indian craftsmanship with European stylistic influence.

The carved surround is adorned with scrolling foliage, floral motifs and rope-twist columns, all highlighted by traces of historic paint in soft ochres, creams and muted greens over dense teak wood. The original mirror plate has gently foxed and aged over time, creating a softly distressed surface that adds depth and authenticity. The worn reflective surface enhances the cabinet’s romantic, timeworn presence.

This cabinet was original made to fit into a wall alcove, hence the unfussy sides and back. Inside, the almirah opens to reveal three practical shelves, offering useful storage while maintaining its strong decorative impact.
