This reproduction Chinese ink brown and white wine jar is made in the style of late Ming Dynasty ceramics. Its rounded form is finished with a pale glaze and freely hand-painted in deep iron-brown tones with a lively dragon amongst clouds.
The dragon is one of the most important symbols in Chinese culture, traditionally associated with imperial power, strength and good fortune. It was also believed to command water and rain.
Handmade and hand-painted in Jingdezhen using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Jingdezhen has been at the heart of Chinese porcelain production for over 1,000 years, with the imperial kilns established there during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644).
