This elegant blue and white temple jar is hand-crafted and hand-painted in Jingdezhen, China's renowned porcelain capital. Its distinctive frilled rim and domed lid are inspired by elegant Chinese porcelain forms of the Ming dynasty, while the decoration features the traditional Four Trees design, one of the most enduring themes in Chinese decorative arts.

The jar depicts an idyllic landscape of pine, bamboo, flowering prunus and luxuriant garden plants. Together these motifs symbolise longevity, resilience, renewal and prosperity. Pine remains green throughout the winter, representing endurance and steadfastness, while bamboo is admired for its strength and flexibility. The blossoming prunus announces the arrival of spring, making the composition a celebration of the changing seasons and the harmony of nature.

Each piece is individually thrown on the potter's wheel before being meticulously hand-painted by skilled artisans using traditional cobalt blue underglaze techniques that have been practised in Jingdezhen for centuries. After glazing and high firing, the porcelain achieves the brilliant white body and delicate sapphire-blue decoration that have made Jingdezhen famous throughout the world.

A beautiful statement piece for a console, sideboard or mantelpiece, this lidded temple jar combines timeless Chinese craftsmanship with a design that suits both traditional and contemporary interiors.
