This incredibly decorative painted antique Gansu sideboard comes from the border of Shanxi & Gansu. It dates to the late 19th century and has influences from both areas. Originally this style of furniture was used for grain or bedding storage and opened from the top. Almost all of these sideboards are modified like this piece, making the fixed panel a door and sealing the top.

We purchased this piece for its original paintwork featuring a child frolicking amongst lotus flowers. The frame is painted rich and deep black and hints of older layers of paint can be seen on the kickboard.

The large interior space is separated by a single shelf.

Dimensions:

96 x 44 x 87 (wxdxh cms)
