This elegant kang table originates from Shanxi province and dates from the mid-19th century. Kang tables were traditionally placed on or beside the kang — a raised, heated stone platform used as both a bed and seating area in wealthy Chinese homes. Crafted from elm wood, this example retains its original black lacquer.. The apron and drawer fronts are finely carved with cloud fungus shapes, traditionally found on Chinese ruyi scepters (symbols of power).
With three drawers for storage, this versatile piece now works beautifully at the end of a bed, as a small media console, or as an elegant low table. Its time-worn lacquer finish gives it an understated, sophisticated patina that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors.
