Painted Nandi Window Shutters

These striking painted Nandi window shutters are a faithful modern interpretation of traditional Indian folk art and architectural decoration. Though not antique, they have been handcrafted in the spirit of historic Indian craftsmanship, celebrating the vibrant colour, symbolism and storytelling long associated with temple and haveli painting.

Each panel is richly decorated with hand-painted depictions of Nandi — the sacred bull and devoted mount (vahana) of Lord Shiva — shown adorned with ornamental jewellery and set against a turquoise ground filled with delicate lotus blossoms. The surrounding border features traditional dot and line motifs in red, cream and black, framing the composition in bold contrast. The painted surface has been intentionally distressed to evoke the character and patina of age, enhancing its decorative appeal.

Constructed from solid wood with traditional style iron fittings, these shutters can be used as wall art, cabinet doors, or incorporated into bespoke joinery.
