This charming Indian teak wood box was used for storing tika - the forehead marking used by Hindus. This box was made circa 1900.

It takes the form of a chariot pulled by two Nandi Bulls. The Nandi bull is a symbol of Lord Shiva and cows are still revered and continue to wander the streets in India. Traces of the original blue paint are still evident while the rest of the piece has developed a wonderful patina.

Tika boxes are a perfect gift for a collector of art as each one is unique.
