Known as Stick boxes, these boxes were passed down through the family with each generation in the Thar desert area of West Rajasthan and were used as dowry chests.

Wood is very scarce in the desert and the resourceful tribes people of this area made these boxes from sticks harvested from the Kair tree - Capparis decidua. The sticks are then riveted together with hand wrought iron fittings to make a very sturdy box.

This particular box is unique as it still has original chip carving on the entrance hatch and It's very rare to find stick boxes with carvings.

Once opened, the entrance hatch reveals a large inner storage area.
