This elegant four-panel byōbu screen captures the serene refinement of Rinpa painting, featuring a blossoming tree branch set against a richly textured gold background paying homage to earlier Rinpa (Rimpa) style. Crafted during the early Shōwa period (circa 1930s), the work reflects both classical influence and Japanese craftsmanship.

A single flowering cherry (sakura) branch extends gracefully across the panels, its dark inked lines and subtle curves contrasting with the luminous background. Delicate white blossoms and soft green foliage are rendered in mineral pigments with fine detail, evoking the fleeting beauty of spring and the poetics of seasonal change.

Rather than true gold leaf, the background is painted in a grid of ochre-gold tones to mimic the traditional kinpaku surface found in earlier Rinpa screens. This effect preserves the shimmering warmth and visual depth of gold while allowing for a more expressive execution. The screen is mounted within a silk brocade border with a hand printed reverse and lacquered wood frame, and is intended for wall display. Indigo can assist you with hanging advice and brackets.

Please be aware that while the front of this piece remains intact, there is minor tearing present on the reverse side.
