This elegant antique red lacquered Chinese 'square cornered cabinet' is colloquially known as book cabinet. This style of cabinet would have been used by scholars for storing clothes and objects used in the pursuit of wisdom. Remnants of the painting are visible; On the left door, three men sail across a river of waterlilies on a traditional Chinese boat. The right door shows a traditional village scene with residents of the town sitting down to eat around a traditional Qing style table. Two doors open outwards to reveal a large interior space separated by a single shelf.
