This three-legged farmer's milking stool from Shanxi province dates to around 1900. Handcrafted in elm, it has a thick, round seat supported by tapered legs joined with simple stretchers for stability. The seat's surface shows the distinctive wear and markings of long-term use, while the wood retains a darkened patina from decades of handling. This stool also has remains of some paintwork colours in yellow and blues, adding to it's charm
Originally made for use in dairy and mercantile work in rural areas. Stools of this type were valued for their durability and ease of movement. Today, it serves equally well as a small side table, plant stand, or rustic seating accent.
