This antique Chinese kang cabinet is from Tianjin area. It's constructed from catalpa wood (qiu mu, 楸木) in the traditional Ming style and dates to the 19th century (Qing dynasty, 1644 - 1911).

Kang cabinets like this one are ideal for use beneath a TV or sound system and date from the 19th century. These were used beside the Kang which was a raised stone platform used as a bed or lounging area in wealthy homes. Traditionally, this was heated from underneath in the winter.

We choose pieces like this one for their original brass and beautiful patina. They're also practical for storage with three compartments behind double doors and three drawers.
