An exceptionally well carved teak Masala box with nice patination from Saurashtra. These were used for storing spices, the word "masala" means 'spice mixture' in Hindi. The lid swivels in the traditional way to reveal five orbital compartments with a central round compartment.
The patination on this piece is excellent and it has been restored sensitively.
