This low kang cabinet still has its original brasswork fittings & handles. Originally this would have been part of a much larger glazed cabinet with a second section stacking on top. This style is classically from the Tianjin area and is constructed from catalpa wood finished with an old burgundy lacquer.

It has four outward opening doors on either side of a locking removable central panel. Three separate interior spaces and five drawers offer storage space.

Kang cabinets were used besides the kang, a raised stone platform used as a bed or lounging area in wealthy homes. Today they make fantastic TV stands or low storage units used at the foot of a bed. This particular one is deeper than most owing to the fact it used to be part of a stacking storage unit.
