This antique kang cabinet originates from Shanxi Province, China, and dates to the 19th century. Made from pine, it retains its original black lacquer and finely painted decoration, with an attractive aged surface and patina.
The doors are decorated with arrangements of scholarly objects, traditionally associated with learning and cultured pursuits, alongside vases, flowers and other decorative objects. Painted flowers, foliage and butterflies frame the composition. The cabinet opens to reveal a useful storage space and retains its original-style metal fittings. Available individually or as a matching pair.
