Aubergine Leather Trunk from Shanghai - Circa 1920

Leather Trunks have been used for many hundreds of years in China with the classic style changing very little. Made for travelling and storage of clothing they are robust and work well in a contemporary western space as a coffee table, or for storage.
Chinese leather trunks come in 4 colours; black, red, cream & aubergine.

This particular piece has all its original brass fittings and a blue interior. The rich aubergine of the trunk itself is achieved by adding a coloured lacquer onto the tanned leather of the trunk itself.
