This charming antique Indian document box originates from Lucknow, India. Crafted from solid rosewood with delicately recessed brass it has both a beautiful grain and patina. The top section has a removable separator while the bottom drawer slides out using a locking mechanism in the top section of the box interior. This would have been used to keep valuables safe.
Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. They were usually made from Teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood. They were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery and cash.
