This antique Chinese cabinet is made in the traditional Gansu style and is immediately recognizable with its deer hoof legs. Furniture from this area is almost always made in walnut wood with a rich honey patina. The brass on these pieces is always thin as it was scarce in Gansu. It features a sophisticated beveled central panel, unusual to find on this style of Gansu furniture.
Deer are a symbol of longevity in China. As with all furniture of this type, construction is classic Chinese traditional mortise & tenon joinery. It has developed a wonderful patina over time, has a beautiful grain, and retains its original brass hardware.
