This traditional Himachal milk pot dates to the early 20th century and originates from the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, northern India. Expertly turned from a single solid piece of neem wood, the vessel displays characteristic concentric grooves formed during the turning process, giving it both strength and visual rhythm.
Milk pots such as this were everyday utility objects, used daily in rural households for the storage and handling of milk and dairy products. Neem wood was favoured for its durability and natural antibacterial properties, making it especially well suited to food storage. The surface shows a rich, darkened patina developed through decades of use, with softened edges and subtle tonal variation that speak to its age and working life.
Today, these sculptural vessels are admired for their simplicity and honest craftsmanship. Functional yet highly decorative, this larger example can be repurposed as an umbrella stand, planter, or container for dried flowers, bringing a quiet, understated presence to both contemporary and traditional interiors.
