This beautiful Tibetan butter teapot is a very good quality reproduction piece made in Nepal in the 1970's. This highly decorative work of art is made from repousse worked metal alloys in the traditional style. It has an elegant handle in the shape of a tiger with a mythical makara beast spout. Makara has the trunk of an elephant, the jaw of a crocodile, the tusks of a boar, and the feet of a lion. It is the tenth sign of the Indian zodiac corresponding to Capricorn. The body of the teapot is decorated with gilt brasswork depicting the Tibetan auspicious symbols; left turning conch, endless knot, the parasol & the banner.

The repousse work is mostly repeating floral designs with a lotus petal design on the base. Used in Tibet to serve Yak tea. It would make a very dramatic statement piece with accent lighting.
