Vintage Red Painted Leopard Panel - Vertical

This wonderfully decorative Indian leopard panel is painted on an old wooden door and draws inspiration from the leopards of Rajasthan, animals long associated with strength, guardianship, and the wild landscapes of western India. Rendered in bold ochre, black, and red pigments, the leopard is shown stretched vertically across the panel, its expressive face and rhythmic spotted coat creating a striking and highly characterful composition.

Leopards are now protected in India and can be found in sanctuaries such as Jawai in central Rajasthan, an area renowned for its harmonious coexistence between wildlife and local communities. Panels such as this would traditionally have served both decorative and symbolic purposes, offering protection and visual impact within a domestic or architectural setting.

The panel is made from an old Indian door, with the reverse retaining its original iron fittings, further emphasising its architectural origins. Today, it would make a superb statement piece, particularly suited to a hallway, stairwell, or as dramatic wall art. Please note that the paint shows areas of crackle, wear, and surface loss, all consistent with age and adding to its authentic patina.
