Carved Teak Votive Panel From Andhra Pradesh - Late 19th Century

This late 19th century carved teak votive panel originates from Andhra Pradesh in South India and was traditionally crafted by tribal artisans as a symbolic decorative element for village homes and shrines. Panels such as these reflected sacred architectural forms and devotional imagery, bringing both protection and spiritual significance into the domestic environment.

Hand-carved from solid teak wood, this example features an architectural façade with a series of stylised windows and Mughal-inspired arches above a deeply recessed shrine-like opening. The geometric symmetry and naïve folk-art carving give the panel a wonderfully sculptural quality, while the aged teak surface has developed a rich patina through decades of use and exposure. Small imperfections and areas of wear enhance the authenticity and character of the piece.

These votive panels look particularly striking displayed as part of a collection but are equally effective as standalone wall pieces in both rustic and contemporary interiors. Supplied fitted with a hanger and ready to display.
